Enjoy at  Upside Down World Bali

Upside Down World Bali adds to the growing list of fun indoor activities on the island, where you can enter seven specially designed rooms whose décor and furniture are simply, and deliberately, the wrong way up. It is where you can enjoy a fun day out with your partner or friends and strike many whacky poses, only to end up as gravity-defying stunts in photos. Selfie sticks don’t really work here… but don’t worry, friendly staff are on standby to help you with shots.

Among the most favourite theme rooms at Upside Down World Bali are the master bedroom, the kitchen and dining room, the laundry, and the 90-degrees ‘Balinese room’ which features ornate wooden carvings and antique furniture. This room is perfect for couples, who often share a slightly intimate pose, but silly nonetheless, where one sits on the sofa while holding a cup, and the other scales the wall ‘pouring’ from a teapot. Upside Down World Bali is definitely a place to take some interesting pictures, however, it always helps if you know how to set up poses and take the best angles. Bring a tripod. And, always try to ask the staff who can guide you through the disorientating rooms, suggest the most common poses that people take if you can’t think of your own, and even take the shot for you. Two of its rooms feature 3D art. Entrance is IDR 100,000 for adults and IDR 50,000 for kids with a maximum height of 1.2m. Upside Down World Bali is halfway on Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai, the main street heading towards Sanur from Kuta.

Tirta Empul Temple - Tampak Siring
"With Love, Conserve and Share"

Review with visualization :

Enjoy at Tirta Empul Temple - Tampak Siring

Tirta Empul Temple is an important temple complex and holy mountain spring, located in the village of Manukaya in central Bali. The site serves as a legendary setting of a traditional tale about good versus evil. It is also a national cultural heritage site.

The complex, built circa 960 AD, is also a silent witness to the old Balinese kingdom years, particularly at the time of the Warmadewa Dynasty. Another nearby and prominent site on top of a hill is the presidential palace, Istana Tampaksiring, built during the years of the nation’s first president, Soekarno.

Tirta Empul, meaning ‘holy water spring’ is actually the name of a water source located within the temple. The spring feeds various purification baths, pools and fish ponds surrounding the outer perimeter, which all flow to the Tukad Pakerisan River. Various sites throughout the region and many other archaeological relics relate to local myths and legends.

As is common with Balinese temples, the Tirta Empul Temple complex has three key divisions, namely a front, secondary and inner courtyard. Visitors to Tirta Empul first come upon the lush gardens and pathways adorned with statues and tropical plants that lead to its entrance.  After stepping through this typical 'candi bentar' (temple gate), a vast walled courtyard welcomes visitors to the bathing pools where a large 'wantilan' meeting hall stands at the right.

Inside the central courtyard, referred to as ‘madya mandala’ or ‘jaba tengah’, pilgrims first approach a rectangular purification bath where a total of 13 elaborately sculpted spouts that line the edge from west to east. After solemn prayers at an altar-like shrine, they proceed to enter the crystal-clear, cold mountain water. With hands pressed together, they bow under the gushing water of the first spout, carrying on to the eleventh. The water from the last two of the 13 spouts is meant for purification purposes in funerary rites.

The myth behind the curative and purifying spring tells of a Balinese ruler, known by the title Mayadenawa, who is depicted to have defied the influence of Hinduism and denied his subjects religious prayers and practices. The legend goes that this eventually angered the gods, and in a campaign, god Indra sought Mayadenawa’s subdual.

The hide-and-seek tactics of Mayadenawa fleeing Indra’s troops took place at various places all over the region, from the rivers Petanu to Pakerisan, and up to the north of Tampaksiring. Hence, the names of the sites and natural features all reflect an episode from the tale, such as Tampaksiring - tampak meaning 'feet', and siring meaning 'sideways', depicting an episode when the fleeing king left his footprints up the hill.

It was here that through his magical powers Mayadenawa created a poisoned spring from which Indra’s exhausted troops drank and succumbed. Indra noticed the fall of his men, and soon thrust his staff into the ground where a holy purifying spring spurted out, to cure the troops and to even bring some of them back to life. This escapade became the legendary background to the holy spring of Tirta Empul, as well as the holy days of Galungan and Kuningan celebrated by the Balinese Hindus.

As with any Bali temple tour or a visit to a holy place, it is always important to dress respectfully. The simple Balinese temple visitor dress code is a traditional ‘kamen’ wrap around the lower body plus a sash around the waist. Women during their periods are prohibited entry to any temple or sacred site, and may enjoy the sights and attractions in the outer perimeters only.

It is tempting to try out the purification bathing ritual yourself; however the formal routine is strictly meant for pilgrims and devotees. You might want to consult your guide who may ask a temple authority for further details.

Far at the front of the temple complex is a large parking area with its eastern side lined with art markets and rows of shops selling various curios and souvenirs. There are also several warungs or food stalls selling local food, snacks and refreshments.

Beratan Lake is a lake located in Bedugul area, Candikuning village, Baturiti district, Tabanan regency of Bali. This lake is located on the provincial road that connects Denpasar with Singaraja. It is also close to Eka Karya Garden. In the middle of the lake there is a temple called Pura Ulun Danu.

Ulun Danu Temple is a place of worship to Sang Hyang Dewi Danu as the goddess of fertility giver. Dewi Danu who is believed to be his god, Vishnu, is in charge of maintaining the upright existence of words of wisdom in managing the natural process. The process of nature must be nurtured and well maintained by mankind with wisdom and policy. According to Canakya Nitisastra, if water and plants are managed without words of wisdom, they will bring disaster to mankind and other sentient beings. The existence of Pura Ulun Danu Batur in Kintamani was to strengthen its purpose. By the Balinese Hindu community, until now the place was used as a center of strengthening the soul to motivate the people in maintaining the lestarinya blend of natural processes with the fascinating process of human civilization development.

The Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is both a famous picturesque landmark and a significant temple complex located on the western side of the Beratan Lake in Bedugul, central Bali. The whole Bedugul area is actually a favorite cool upland weekend and holiday retreat for locals and island visitors alike from the southern and urban areas, as it is strategically located, connecting the island’s north and south. Ulun Danu Beratan, literally ‘the source temple of Lake Beratan’, is easily the island’s most iconic sanctuary sharing the scenic qualities with the seaside temples of Uluwatu and Tanah Lot. The smooth reflective surface of the lake surrounding most of the temple’s base creates a unique floating impression, while the mountain range of the Bedugul region encircling the lake provides the temple with a scenic backdrop.

The temple was built in the 17th century in worship of the main Hindu trinity, Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva, as well as the lake goddess, Dewi Danu. The sight and cool atmosphere of the Bali uplands have made the lake and this temple a favourite sightseeing and recreational spot as well as a frequently photographed site.

The history of the Ulun Danu temple can be traced back to the rise of the Mengwi kingdom. The ‘floating’ temple complex is comprised of four groups of shrines, including the prominent Lingga Petak shrine to its east. There are four gates facing each of the four points of the compass. The second group is located in the west and pays homage to another temple in the hill of Puncak Mangu and is regarded as the symbol of soil fertility. The ‘puncak’ or hilltop of Mangu is northeast of Lake Beratan.

Entering the temple gates, instantly noticeable are the typical Balinese architectural features and the tiered shrines. Inside the complex, the three main shrines are dedicated to the worship of god Vishnu which boasts 11 tiers, god Brahma with seven 7 tiers and Shiva with three tiers.

As the temple complex occupies a rather low lying side of the lake, the floating effect is thus featured when the lake’s water levels rise. This is the time for the most perfect photo opportunities.

Besides a silent witness and historical site of the golden days of the Mengwi kingdom, this temple complex is also home to a megalithic artifact in the form of a sarcophagus and stone tablet. This has led to the assumption that it was a consecrated site before the Hindu temple was built.

Good to Know about Ulun Danu Beratan Temple Ulun Danu Beratan temple’s anniversary ceremony or Piodalan takes place every Kliwon Julungwangi Tuesday on the Pawukon Balinese calendar cycle which occurs every 210 days. Also a grander Piodalan Agung takes place every 420 days. However, on any other regular day the serene lake views and cool uplands are an experience itself.

With the presence of Ulun Danu Temple, the scenery around the lake becomes more beautiful. Bedugul area is a place located in a mountainous area that has a cool and cozy atmosphere surrounded by tropical trees. It still looks natural, the reflection of shadow trees and sky on the water surface is very stunning eye sight. Sometimes the lake is covered with fog. Therefore, you will not regret visiting it.

There, you can enjoy the scenery casually while walking, boating, or photographing the surrounding environment. If you come to coincide with a good day according to Hindu calendar count, there you can see Balinese Hindus performing the Hindu or Ngaben worship ceremony.

Beratan Lake is located in Candi Kuning Village, Baturiti District, Tabanan, Bali. The distance is approximately 72 km from Kuta or Ngurah Rai Airport. If from the airport, you can travel for two hours to get to the lake using a private vehicle. Even so, you do not have to worry about getting bored on the trip, because along the way you will be treated to natural scenery, vegetable gardens, valleys, and you will enjoy the winding uphill streets.

This tourist attraction can also be reached by motor vehicle. This location connects Bangli City with Singaraja Town. While the object route connects the attractions of Batur Region with Tampaksiring and Besakih Tourism Objects.

After seeing Pura Ulu Danu in Lake Beratan area, please visit also Pura Piguman, Gelgel Temple, and Tanah Lot Beach.

Location Ulun Danu is very strategic because it is flanked by three other famous attractions, namely Gitgit Waterfall, Keasrian Danau Kembar: Buyan and Tamblingan, and Lovina Beach. Feel the sensation of fresh natural ecosystem in Sangeh forest, Pandawa Beach, and Panglipuran Traditional Village, Bali.

Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest

Enjoy at Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest

Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest and Sanctuary ('Obyek Wisata Alam Alas Kedaton' in its local designation) is located in the village of Kutuh in the district of Marga, Tabanan, approximately 25km northeast of Denpasar, the island’s provincial capital city, and 4.5km from Tabanan. The small forest of 12ha is inhabited by hundreds of grey long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis).

Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest is easily regarded as the island’s ‘other monkey forest’ after the most prominent and often visited Ubud Monkey Forest with its band of monkeys. Kedaton is rather off the beaten track as it is located quite far from the main tourist destinations of the island.

Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest’s name comes from alas, meaning ‘forest’, and kedaton, or ‘kingdom’. The area of Alas Kedaton is historically located between the Mengwi, Tabanan and Badung rajadoms. Thus theoretically, it should be considered as part of Mengwi, yet in reality the Tabanan royal family has developed most influence over this temple.

Inside the forest is a namesake temple, usually referred to as Pura Dalem Kahyangan Kedaton. This expansive complex is nestled amidst the dense woodland. Pathways surrounding the moss-covered temple walls provide a nice ambling tour, while the many places to stop and look over the shoulder-high partitions provide an insightful view into the temple grounds.

The temple was built by the Hindu high priest, Mpu Kuturan, to unify the island's Hindu sects, merging them into the Balinese Hinduism we know today. The high priest’s concepts allowed anyone from any caste or sect to offer their prayers at the Alas Kedaton temple.

The Balinese long-tail macaques are considered sacred. So are the hoards of flying foxes that zoom through the misty forest lofts. Thus, the village locals, shopkeepers, guides and visitors are prohibited from harming them, no matter how impish and aggressive they may be. The wide open spaces, deep forest and attractive temple make Alas Kedaton a worthwhile visit, even without taking its wildlife into view.

The Pura Dalem Kahyangan holds its piodalan temple anniversary every Anggara Kasih Tuesday on the Balinese Pawukon calendar, or roughly 20 days after the Galungan celebrations. The heights of festivities take place during the day, and conclude before sundown. The temple’s innermost grounds are the holiest and are discernibly lower compared to the outer perimeters. Four temple gates are located at the north, east, south and west, with the west being the main gate.

The monkey forest is usually an included itinerary on tours to Bali’s west, such as temple visits to the Taman Ayun Temple in Mengwi to admire the imposing architecture of the past, as well as the majestic sea temple of Tanah Lot. Tall local nutmeg trees are home to this band of monkeys, and the shady ambiance provides a refreshing intermediate tour stop.

It is not advisable to purchase the peanuts and bananas sold for feeding the animals. These monkeys are wild animals and dependence upon hand-outs disrupts their natural feeding cycle. Also a steady diet of peanuts and bananas tends to fatten them.

Secondly, if you are doling out the food at a pace that doesn't suit any one of those lined up to receive it, they will grab-quicker than lightning – and often bite to make you give up the tasty treats. The best rule of thumb – to prevent teeth in your thumb is to ‘look but don't touch’.

If you want to take a photo shoot with the monkeys, on your shoulders perhaps, better be very still and let the animals approach you in the first place, rather than chasing them about. And always remember to stay calm.

Return through the souvenir shops, stop for a drink or select one of the eateries outside the gate for a snack or meal. Ensure that your menu has prices, before you order. Otherwise, it’s practice time to hone your bargaining skills!

Elephant Cave in Bali - Goa Gajah

Enjoy at Elephant Cave in Bali - Goa Gajah

Goa Gajah’s name is slightly misleading, lending the impression that it’s a gigantic dwelling full of elephants. Nevertheless, Goa Gajah ‘Elephant Cave’ is an archaeological site of significant historical value that makes it a special place to visit. Located on the cool western edge of Bedulu Village, six kilometres out of central Ubud, you do not need more than an hour to descend to its relic-filled courtyard and view the rock-wall carvings, a central meditational cave, bathing pools and fountains.

Goa Gajah dates back to the 11th century, built as a spiritual place for meditation. The main grounds are down a flight of steps from the roadside and parking area, which is lined with various art and souvenir shops and refreshment kiosks. Upon reaching the base you will come across a large ‘wantilan’ meeting hall and an assortment of large old stone carvings, some restored to their former full glory. The pool, excavated in 1954, features five out of supposedly seven statues depicting Hindu angels holding vases that act as waterspouts.

Various structures reveal Hindu influences dating back to the 10th century, and some relics feature elements of Buddhism dating even earlier to the 8th century. The cave is shallow; inside are three stone idols each wrapped in red, yellow and black cloths. Black soot lines the cave’s walls as result from the current-day incense burning. Several indentations show where meditating priests once sat. The northern side of the complex is dominantly Buddhist while south across the river it’s mostly Shivaite.

At the southern end are beautiful rice fields and small streams that lead to the Petanu River – another natural site entwined in local legends. Goa Gajah was built on a hillside and as two small streams met here forming a campuhan or ‘river junction’, the site was considered sacred and was built for hermetic meditation and prayers.

Even though the site’s name translates into ‘Elephant Cave’, you won’t find any pachyderms here. Various theories suggest the origin of the name, such as back in time the Petanu River was originally called ‘Lwa Gajah’, meaning the ‘River Gajah’, before it came to be called Petanu River. Other sources state that the ‘Gajah’ or elephant aspect came from the stone figure inside the cave depicting the Hindu lord Ganesh, who is characterised by an elephant’s head.

Ancient inscriptions also allude to the name Antakunjarapada, which roughly translates to ‘elephant’s border’. The cave’s entrance shows a menacing giant face with its wide open mouth as the door. Various motifs depicting the forest and animals are carved out of the outer rock face. The giant face was considered to be that of an elephant’s.

The complex is open daily 08:00 - 16.00. As with any temple in Bali, women during their periods are forbidden entrance and wearing a sarong and waist sash is a must. These are available for rent at the entrance. Goa Gajah temple celebrates its 'piodalan' temple anniversary on an 'Anggara Kasih Prangbakat' Tuesday on the Balinese 210-day Pawukon calendar, corresponding to different dates on the Gregorian calendar each year (consult a local). Entry tickets are 15,000 rupiah for adults and 7,500 for children.

An all-terrain vehicle (ATV), also known as a quad, quad bike, three-wheeler, four-wheeler or quadricycle as defined by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is a vehicle that travels on low-pressure tires, with a seat that is straddled by the operator, along with handlebars for steering control. As the name implies, it is designed to handle a wider variety of terrain than most other vehicles. Although it is a street-legal vehicle in some countries, it is not street-legal within most states and provinces of Australia, the United States or Canada.

By the current ANSI definition, ATVs are intended for use by a single operator, although some companies have developed ATVs intended for use by the operator and one passenger. The passenger is not required to have a helmet. These ATVs are referred to as tandem ATVs.

The rider sits on and operates these vehicles like a motorcycle, but the extra wheels give more stability at slower speeds. Although most are equipped with three or four wheels, six-wheel models exist for specialized applications. Engine sizes of ATVs currently for sale in the United States, (as of 2008 products), range from 49 to 1,000 cc (3 to 61 cu in).
